2K's return to hockey is complete today with the launch of NHL 2K on both Android and iOS devices.
Announced last month, NHL 2K is available now through Google Play and the App Store for $7.99, bringing on-ice matches and a full-fledged MyCareer mode to mobile. It represents 2K's first foray back into an NHL game since they ceased developing console titles in 2010.
In addition to the deep MyCareer mode, there are more one-off experiences including the Winter Classic, shootouts, and free skate. There is also a three-on-three minigame, as well as multiplayer in the form of turn-based shootouts. The developers will update the roster throughout the year as well, an important aspect of any sports title to most fans. The game is co-developed by Visual Concepts and Virtuos Games.

Could 2K be returning to NHL games on console, too? It's possible, but there is not any real indication of that at this time. Its NBA series has dominated the competition, with EA bowing out until this year's returning NBA Live. Perhaps 2K will look to return the favor by providing an alternative to the NHL series, but the mobile title will have to suffice for the time being. The below infographic provided by 2K (which doesn't do much to refute speculation about a return to consoles, it must be said) shows the series' history.
