So patch 6.0.2, The Iron Tide, is now live on World of Warcraft. The update radically transforms the world's most popular MMO in anticipation of the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion. How exciting? I haven't played in years and even I am tempted to log back in. After I update about two years worth of content, including all previous expansions, which are now available to all players.

Perhaps you have been like me and have been away from the game for a very long time, or maybe you just haven't logged in a few days or were otherwise indisposed for the last few days. Should you even bother? Is Warcraft over? WoW will never be over.
The patch notes, however, can be intimidating as all hell. It's a long, long TL;DR post, with far too many numbers. Let's be honest, we're lazy. That's where Josh 'Lore' Allen comes in. Blizzard's Community Manager has created a six minute clip highlighting the biggest changes to World of Warcraft. He takes a very dense set of details and while it's not the most in-depth guide, it is certainly enough to tempt players back into the fold.

Firstly, everyone is getting a facelift. The character customization feature has been extended. New facial models abound. You can also undelete characters that you may have gotten annoyed at in the past.
There's a new UBRS event, which will last until the expansion is released next month. It's for level 90 only, so grab some friends. Which you can now totally do with the updated LFG option, which removes the complete randomness from the equation and forces you to, gasp, interact with your Pick Up Group.
But to me, the most exciting fix is the stat squish and ability prune. See, World of Warcraft was getting to be a lot like tax law, they just kept adding more and more things, without ever really taking the time to adjust. Eventually it became this bulky, unwieldy Ouroboros, forever consuming itself. You would have so many abilities that you literally could not fit them on your task bar. But unlike tax law, Blizzard could do something about it. Abilities have been pruned, and stats have been squished. The numbers could be too big. Don't worry, they've adjusted the numbers on all enemies, too.
And that is but a taste. Check out the video below. For a more in-depth look at the changes in Azeroth, read the patch notes here.
