Apple announced its new 5K Retina Display iMac as its last big reveal at today's presentation, boasting a 14.7-million pixel count in a 27-inch display that starts shipping out today.

1080p is the current accepted standard for high-definition display, containing 1,920 pixels across the width of a display. Some higher range devices offer the next step up in resolution, 4K display. 4K screens boast more than 4,000 pixels across the width. Not satisfied with the current standard for ultra-high-definition, Apple created a 5K display for its new Retina Display iMac, packing more than 5,000 horizontal pixels into the display. According to the presentation, the Retina Display iMac contains seven times as many pixels as a 1080p display.
Not just an upgrade in the graphics department, the 5K Retina iMacs provide more power behind the scenes as well. The new machine supports 45 percent faster graphics than the previous generation of iMac, along with a 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB drive. The 5K Retina iMacs start shipping today, and they can be yours for $2499.
iOS 8.1 And OS X Yosemite Roll Out As Free Updates
According to the iMac's specs page, the 5K Retina iMac can support up to 32 GB of memory and up to 3 TB of Fusion Drive storage or 1 TB of SSD flash storage. Of course, it also comes with the OS X Yosemite upgrade, available today for free.
Apple today also announced a new Mac Mini with faster processors, storage and Wi-Fi. That model starts at $499.
