In Assassin's Creed Unity, the city of Paris is just as much a character as the Assassins and Templars themselves. Paris marks the biggest land setting the franchise has ever known, and it will be a delight to fully explore, according to a new interview with Ubisoft Production Manager Jeffery Spicer.
Assassin's Creed Unity Xbox One Bundle Announced
The interview, published yesterday by Develop, focuses largely on the kinds of hair and fabric physics that next-gen engines can produce. Toward the end, however, Spicer starts to talk about the city of Paris itself and how it's organized. Unity's Paris is divided into seven districts, each with a distinct architectural style in its buildings. More importantly, the kinds of AI that will be walking around the streets of Paris will change depending on the district.
Unlike in previous games where you were likely to see the same AI model roaming throughout a city, Paris' AI construction really mirrors the social divides in Paris that sparked the French Revolution in the first place. Higher class models will likely not be seen with the city's beggars. Combined with the unique types of buildings found in each district, this should give Paris a collection of distinct atmospheres that the player will be able to explore and discover at will.
The Entire City Of Paris In Unity Will Include 30,000 AI Units
Spicer also notes that Paris will be the "largest land mass" that the series has seen, which means it will be the biggest city setting in any Assassin's Creed game. Looking at the specific phrasing, though, Paris likely won't be as big as open water settings in Black Flag or Rogue. But considering those settings are mostly open water – and considering how dense the city of Paris is said to be – it seems like players will still be getting a good deal in terms of city size.
Assassin's Creed Unity will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 11.
