Evolve News: Turtle Rock Studios Announces Jason Graves And Lustmord As Composers For Upcoming Next-Gen Game's Soundtrack

Jason Graves And Lustmord Are Set To Give Evolve Quite The Chilling Soundtrack

Developer Turtle Rock Studios announced today that its upcoming asymmetrical action game Evolve would be getting a soundtrack from two musicians skilled in the art of creating foreboding atmospheres.

Jason Graves is a veteran game composer who has worked on soundtracks for many high-profile games such as Tomb Raider, Murdered: Soul Suspect and the Dead Space trilogy, for which he won several audio awards including two BAFTAs.

Graves will be creating the sound for Evolve alongside Lustmord, an alternative musician credited as a founding father of the "dark ambient" musical genre. If you're unfamiliar with the term, it means that his music makes you feel isolated and wary, not something you'll have blaring out your car but a perfect complement to Evolve's dark setting.

Evolve Announces 'Big' Closed Alpha

The Evolve blog posted an interview today with Graves about how he tackled this project. The soundtrack as it stands uses more synthesized sounds than orchestral sounds to create an ambiance the post compares to the Alien and Predator franchises, good inspirations for a game about hunting down powerful monsters. Both factions in the game, the Monsters and the Hunters, are treated to unique soundtracks throughout the game.

"There is such a distinct delineation between the two perspectives," Graves said on the Evolve blog. "The general idea is that the Hunters are slightly more tech-y sounding with maybe more synth-sounding stuff. Very precise drums. And the Monster has these really big, slightly distorted drum sounds that combined with organic sounds add to the Monster's experience. Think gongs that were bowed, a big piano that has lots of scrapes on it ... basically, any sorts of instruments that can be abused and made to screech or squeal."

Evolve is set to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC February 10, 2015.
