HTC Returns To Tablets, Making 9-Inch Nexus Tablet With Google, New Report Says

Next Google Nexus Tablet Will Be Made By HTC, New Report Says

Notable smartphone manufacturer HTC will be teaming up with Google to create a new 9-inch Nexus tablet, the Wall Street Journal reported early this morning.

HTC One M8 For Windows Revealed, Specs Identical To Android Version

HTC has a grand total of one tablet in its manufacturing history, 2011's HTC Flyer, but Google is still teaming up with the Taiwanese manufacturer to produce the next generation of its Nexus line of tablets, the report said. The report also said that the tablet will have a 9-inch screen, which will fit snugly between the screen sizes of the existing Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets.

Google is known for switching control of its Nexus line of phones and tablets among several different manufacturers. This helps prevent one company from getting too big and creating a monopoly on Google's devices, the report said.

HTC has previously worked with the Nexus line before but only with the brand's smartphones. The first Nexus phone was an HTC product released back in 2010. Samsung then took over for the next two, and LG took over after that. If the report is true, HTC's Nexus tablet will be the third model to come out after the Nexus 7 from ASUS and Samsung's Nexus 10.

Rumors of an HTC-made Nexus tablet have been humming around for a little bit, and some news outlets even report that we'll see a reveal of the new Nexus 9 in early October.

HTC is more than used to creating Android devices, so we already know that it would work well in Google's ecosystem. The jury's still out, though, on whether the company will be up to manufacturing a competitive tablet after being out of the game for a couple of years.
