A retail, physical disc version of Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition will be hitting store shelves in October, the PlayStation blog announced today.
Just In Case You're A Bit Out Of The Loop: Microsoft Owns Minecraft Now
Mojang's ultimate sandbox game has been available on the PlayStation Store for a couple of weeks now, but just in case someone prefers not to do business over the Internet or just likes to have a physical box to show off on their shelf, it'll also be released as a physical, touchable disc on October 7.
The post also said that the retail version will have a Day 1 patch available. Whether this means that the digital version will be getting patched soon or just that the retail disc carries an older build of the port is unclear.
PS3 Minecraft Owners Can Now Upload Saves To The PS4 Edition
The retail PS4 edition of Minecraft is coming just in time to enjoy the new patch for Minecraft PlayStation 3 Edition that allows users to transfer world saves from the previous Sony generation to this next one. If players already own the PS3 edition of the game, however, it might be more economical for them to buy the digital edition of the PS4 game, just to be able to score the $15 discount for owning a PS3 copy.
The blog post also touched on the Vita version of the game that seems to still be in limbo despite the next-gen versions launching at the beginning of the month. It also seems like the Vita version is farther away than we had expected. The post states that more information on the Vita edition of Minecraft will be available "in a few weeks." It looks like we'll have to wait it out for this handheld version a little while longer.
Minecraft is available for PS4 over digital download now and is set to hit the retail world October 7.
