Rock, Paper, Scissor Your Way To Victory In Latest World Of Warships Developer Diary

Wargaming, the company behind World of Tanks, is looking to expand its World of [insert military craft] series onto the high seas. The company just released its second developer diary outlining the combat and four different types of craft available in their upcoming naval sim, World of Warships.

The company is nothing if not particular, nay, exacting, down to the last measurement. The level of historical detail present in World of Tanks is being transferred to Warships, the small upgrades to gun sizes, armor plating, engines, speed, all of it will be present. Wargaming has dedicated itself to recreating history, up to a certain point. As they are quick to point out, a naval battle could be long and protracted; they hope to lessen the time it takes to create a better game. For instance, planes and ships require fuel; there is no need for that resource in game.

The guiding philosophy behind the combat in Warships is surprisingly simple: rock, paper, scissors. Certain vehicle types are stronger or weaker against certain other vehicle types. Which, when you think about it, makes a bit of sense.

The four classes of gunship are: Battleship, Destroyer, Cruiser and Aircraft Carrier. Destroyers are strong against Battleships, which are strong against Cruisers, which hunt down Destroyers. For obvious reasons, the Carrier gets to sit out the game of rock, paper, scissors; it's job is to rain death from above, which kind of ruins the spirit of the game. ACs will get their own video in the weeks and months to come.

Each ship type is a more generalized version of every ship of that type in a particular class; the Takao class cruiser is a representation of all the different Takao cruisers put into production by the Japanese during WWII.

World of Warships is currently in closed Alpha testing. No release date has been set. Watch the dev diary below!
