Chivalry, despite what you may have heard, is not dead. In fact, it's coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

Original developer Torn Banner Studios is teaming up with Activision and developer Mercenary Technology to bring the 2012 melee multiplayer action of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare to last-gen consoles as a digital download.
Soon console owners will have access to all of the frantic, action multiplayer that Middle Age warfare can offer. With 12 players having access to upwards of 60 weapons – an impressive armory considering it's entirely made up of melee weapons, shields and the occasional bow – Chivalry matches are a delicate balance of strategic swordplay and desperate hacking and slashing.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare includes several different game modes like raids, castle sieges and gladiatorial arenas. With all of these diverse backdrops, console owners will have plenty of settings where they can lop off enemies' (or teammates') limbs as they do their best to recreate Monty Python's Black Knight scene. Additionally, four separate classes make sure that everyone – from the coward who deals damage from a distance with the Archer to the tank who likes to soak up damage with the Knight – can find a playstyle that suits them.
Just in case you've forgotten over the past two years just how brutal a round of Chivalry can be, Torn Banner was nice enough to provide a console version announcement trailer that includes a healthy amount of gory reminders.
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is set to hit digital shelves sometime this fall. It's currently available on Steam for PC, though the developers have recently teased that a Linux port is close at hand.
