After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Swiss based developer Urban Games has launched Train Fever via Steam game platform today. A Steam Engine, if you will.
Styx: Master Of Shadows Coming To Steam Next Month
Get it? Cuz trains used to run on Steam power, and that's even the name of the distribution site! Aah, train puns.
Implementing lessons learned from the genre's rich history, Urban Games have developed a state-of-the-art railway-simulation inspired by the likes of 1994's Transport Tycoon. Using an in-house engine built specifically for the game, the team poured their affection and knowledge of the genre into Train Fever, combined with a desire to add the kinds of features they always wanted to see themselves, to create a train sim to be reckoned with.
Sniper Elite III's Fourth DLC Hits Steam Today
There is a big market for train simulators. I can't knock that. Trains might not be the fastest mode of transportation, but I'll be damned if they are not the most civilized. There's no strip search involved, no hour plus ride just to get to the station, and no 'be there an hour before' departure warnings. It's just simple, elegant. There's leg room, you can walk around and unless you're in the quiet car, go ahead and use your cellphone. We won't mind.
"Train Fever delivers an advanced railroad business simulation set against a backdrop of sophisticated randomly generated 3D environments and lovingly crafted models. Players can step back to the golden years of the industrial revolution with steam trains dating from the 1840's, or fast forward to the powerful locomotives and sprawling cities of the modern day."
Players begin in the 1850s and go from there. Establish a transport company, build infrastructure, buy rolling stock, manage the lines and watch the world evolve dynamically as the steel-wheeled empire flourishes. It'll be just like Hell on Wheels, except you'll actually watch it!
So, if you have a Train Fever, the only cure is more...Train Fever, I guess. Wait, wait, how about...Train Fever is pulling into Internet Station? Or! Train Fever is on track to do very well this autumn. (Railroads run on tracks, see?)
You can download the game for PC on Steam right now for $34.99. Check out the launch trailer below. Mac and Linux users will be getting it next week, on September 11.
