Well, it's Thursday folks, and you know what that means: the weekly Nintendo eShop update. Gather around and let's see what the fine folks at the House That Mario Built have for us this first week of September.
The Sims 4 Premium Pass Is Not Happening, Repeat: Not Happening
Checking in first with the 3DS, this week's Virtual Console offering for the handheld is Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight, which is absolutely nothing like Street Fighter. But fans of the Metroidvania style of old school platformers should be happy. The game takes place 25 years after the events of the original Street Fighter II, so obviously Ken is in space and can fire Hadoukens without even hitting Down, Down-Forward, Forward + Punch. Hey man, it was 1990. We all did stuff we regret in the early 90s. Sure, it's the Jason X of the series, but don't you kind of secretly love Jason X? Not convinced? Watch the trailer.
This week's eShop offer for the 3DS is the demo version of THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY CURTAIN CALL. Download the demo and receive two full songs from the upcoming full version, which is hitting the 3DS exclusively on September 16. Best part, you'll be able to transfer your demo version to the full version in two weeks.
One Piece Unlimited World Red DLC Gives Zoro Some Badass Armor
The Wii U Virtual Console is getting Nobunaga's Ambition, a long running Japanese game series that began in 1983. The game is a pseudo-Romance of the Three Kingdoms general tactical game, where players can impose economic sanctions or go all in and just send in the ninjas. I think I know which one you're going to do. 800 Wii points.
Also for the Wii U on the eShop is Cubemen 2, a Minecraft-esque action puzzler for up to 6 players. The game features 8,000 and counting user generated levels that matches player against player, computer or a combination of both. Be careful, though, you may find you play nothing else.
Nintendo is also celebrating the upcoming launch of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS with a sale. Starting at 9 a.m. PT through 8:59 a.m. PT Oct. 2, players can save up to 33 percent on select games that helped make your favorite fighters famous. This week includes Mario, Yoshi and more classic Nintendo characters.
Also on sale:
Brunch Panic, the thing that all 20 something urban women fear the most, is 30 percent off (reduced from $3.99 to $2.79) until 8:59 a.m. PT on Sept. 15 on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
My Vet Practice 3D - In the Country and My Baby Pet Hotel 3D from Treva Entertainment are on sale until 8:59 a.m. PT on Sept. 24 for the 3DS.
World Conqueror 3D is 33 percent off (reduced from $5.99 to $3.99) until 8:59 a.m. PT on Sept. 25 for the 3DS.
Jett Tailfin, the fish racing game, has had a major price reduction, from $34.95 to $24.95 for the Wii U.
Additional new releases for the eShop this week are:
Ice Cream Surfer (Wii U)
Tappingo 2 (Nintendo 3DS)
Bit Boy!! ARCADE - Demo Version (Nintendo 3DS); the full version retails for $7.99
Glory of Generals - Demo Version (Nintendo 3DS); the full version can be purchased for $9.99 and features 64 RTS campaigns set during World War II.
See you next week. What should be the next Super Smash Bros.-themed game they should reduce?
