Call of Duty multiplayer is serious business. Fortunately, the developers behind Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare seem to be ready to provide a revitalized multiplayer experience for a new generation of consoles based on what they reveal in the new "Multiplayer Dive Deep" video.
Limited Edition Advanced Warfare 1TB Xbox One Announced
No matter how engaging or well thought out an installment's single player campaign is, all eyes are turned toward a new Call of Duty game's multiplayer come launch as thousands upon thousands of players take to the virtual arena to vie for dominance and make snide comments about how well they know each other's mothers. Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind the series' bold upcoming entry, is embracing the challenge with gusto by changing how CoD multiplayer is played through new Exo abilities, better customization, and new maps and game modes.
Set in the year 2054, Advanced Warfare sends military action to the realm of science maybe-not-so-fiction with the exoskeleton game mechanic. Each soldier is equipped with this mechanized body armor, and it completely changes the pace of mulitplayer. Exos allow players to jump higher and dodge faster, giving them powerful boosts in almost any direction and dramatically speeding up movement in each round. Further, the Exo offers players customizable buffs like temporary shielding, hovering or cloaking, further increasing the strategy necessary for online domination.

The video also details the increased level of customization players have for their character. Beyond purely aesthetic changes, Advanced Warfare lets players customize their loadouts, perks and even scorestreak rewards through the Pick 13 system, upgraded from Black Ops 2's Pick 10 system. Players can then test out their loadout on a virtual firing range accessible between multiplayer matches.
Finally, Advanced Warfare is introducing several new maps and a new game mode tailored for the new Exo-powered, high-octane action. Some of the new maps encourage the increased air mobility granted by the Exos while other confine players to restricting hallways, lending itself to brief but intense action. Almost all of the maps shown seem to have an increased level of player interaction as well. Players can activate turrets or computer tracking systems built into the levels to work to their advantage. Aside from a host of returning game modes, a new game mode, Uplink, was also added that plays sort of like a game of basketball. Teams fight to get a shared spherical object to the other team's goal, complete with chest passing abilities.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set to release November 4, but players can preorder now to receive "Day Zero" access on the 3rd.
