Alienware's New Area-51 Gaming Desktop Supports 32 GB DDR4 Memory, Resolutions Higher Than 4K

Alienware's New Gaming Desktop Is Too Powerful For Its Own Good, So It's Perfect For The Hardest-Cored Gamers

Alienware announced its newest version of the Area-51 series of gaming desktops with enough raw power to keep PC gamers on the high end of performance for years to come.

New Consoles Look More Like PCs, Alienware Says

Upon first look of Alienware's new offering, set to ship out at the end of the year, one thing becomes immediately apparent: It's a triangle. For this reimagining of what PC gaming should look like, Alienware has forgone the traditionally boxy, rectangular form of desktop computers and put its new machine into a sleek, three-sided design.

Aside from just looking interesting, the new shape actually accomplishes a lot of practical functions. The input/output ports on the front of the machine are easily accessible from a sitting position while the ports on the back can be reached just as easily by leaning the machine forward onto its front edge. The model also helps cooling. The expelled hot air that normally can become trapped between the wall and the back of the computer, somewhat defeating the purpose of cooling, now has more space to dissapate thanks to the angled exhaust of the triangular design.

Notebook And Desktop Sales Are Up After Years Of Decline

Of course, it wouldn't be a high-end gaming PC without quality innards, and Alienware has tackled this aspect of the computer head-on. The new Area-51 comes with either a 6- or 8-core Intel processor and supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The Area-51 can also support up to three graphics cards, providing resolution sticklers (you know who you are) with graphical capabilities of 4K and beyond. Dell has already announced a curved, 34-inch monitor to take advantage of what this computer can do.

The whole package is also easily accessible from either side of the case. Just take off a side panel, and the Area-51 provides you with wide open access to the hardware, allowing you to customize to your heart's content.

The Command Center software that comes with the computer allows users to keep detailed tabs on how their machine is working and customize everything from hardware performance to the colored lights on the case. The triangular body may stand out already, but you can still work to make your computer unique to you.
