Resident Evil Revelations 2 Coming 'Early 2015': Live-Action Zombie Teaser Shows Return Of First-Person Enemy Scanning?

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Officially Announced For Early 2015 Release

At today's Sony Computer Entertainment event in Japan, Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Revelations 2, showing off a live-action teaser trailer and some eye-popping art from the game.

The Evil Within DLC Will Allow You To Play As The Horrific 'Boxman'

This will of course be the follow-up to Resident Evil Revelations, which was first released for the Nintendo 3DS and is generally considered to be the best title in the series since Resident Evil 4. It offers a scarier experience than either Resident Evil 5 or 6 and enough exciting action sequences that when it was ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3 it held up to its console forebearers.

Nothing much is known about this release just yet, except where it is ending up. Revelations 2 is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, but it's also hitting the Xbox One and PS4 and PC. It will be interesting to see if this ends up being the first truly next-gen installment or if it only offers higher resolutions, much like Capcom is doing with its upcoming Resident Evil HD remake. Likely it's the latter, especially both games will be hitting around the same time.

Resident Evil Remake Gets A Gameplay Trailer, Shows off 1080p Graphics

The teaser trailer does infer that the game's X-ray feature will return from the first game. It was a neat feature that let you view the world in a first-person mode and scan enemies for their weaknesses, and it worked much better on consoles with two analog sticks than on the 3DS.

Capcom has also released this concept art from the new game, which seems to confirm the return of the classic "giant eyes appearing out of the wrong places" trope that the RE series loves so much.

The release date of Resident Evil Revelations 2 is only a few months away so expect much more information soon. For now, check out the teaser trailer below and try to make sense of its slow-motion, glowing bracelet madness.
