Verizon Launching High Definition LTE Voice Calling Soon

Verizon Launching Voice-Over-LTE, High Def and Video Calling

Verizon is launching a voice-over-LTE service soon, promising cleaner, crisper calls, as well as live video chatting for Verizon customers. The company claims the voice over LTE service will be available nationwide in the coming weeks.

Rolled up with the launch, Verizon customers will get new high-definition voice service, which supposedly highly improves the quality of voice calls (if anyone is still making those). Verizon is focusing on high quality, crystal clear acoustics.

"Once you experience the HD quality voice, you don't want to go back," Greg Dial, executive director of mobile services for Verizon, told reporters. "The tight integration of the video calling feature is also significant. You can launch it right from the dialer. There's no opening a separate app."

Verizon says its Skype-like video calling service will be rolled up into its plans already available, and, like the new high-definition voice calling, won't cost anything extra for Verizon customers. The VoLTE service will cost as much as traditional phone service, so consumers don't have to fret about their rates going up with the update. The video calling will, however, be counted as data and use up customer's data plan.

Verizon did not announce the specific date VoLTE service will be launched in America, nor were they clear about the devices that would initially support VoLTE, voice calling or high-definition calls. You can listen to the difference between standard and HD voice calling in the video below.
