New gameplay footage and in-game screenshots leaked by a user on the Xbox One subreddit hint at a new gameplay mode for Assassin's Creed Unity that features Assassins other than Arno.
Crowds in Assassin's Creed Unity can reach 12,000 people
The reddit user, whose account has since been deleted, posted on the subreddit that he was testing an Xbox One version of the upcoming Ubisoft title. The original image he uploaded was a level selection screen where the levels seem to involve characters like Altaïr, Ezio, Aveline and Edward Kenway from past Assassin's Creed games and the franchise's other supplemental media. He also posted a video for a time-based item collection game mode, which (unsurprisingly) has since been taken down. Here's the user's description of the game mode:
"You are teleported to a sealed off area that is on the cusp of deteriorating(based on the level you chose). Your goal to is collect data on the map to find the location of a trapped assassin on the map." He goes on to describe the different types of data you can collect worth different amounts of points. The whole thing, he says, is bound by a time limit.
Meet Arno, Protagonist Of Assassin's Creed Unity
Players eager to step back into the shoes of their favorite past Assassins should temper their expectations, as there is nothing to suggest that this game mode will actually let gamers play as the characters depicted on the level select screen. Moreover, Ubisoft's infamous quip that rendering a female model for co-op play was too costly would make even less sense if it turns out players could play as Aveline. What's interesting is that, as NeoGAF users pointed out, one of the level titles, "Devils of the Caribbean," is the title for the Abstergo Entertainment product that comes about at the end of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Perhaps this game mode is all about beta testing the games that Abstergo Entertainment is producing using Desmond's genes, which is why everyone's favorite Assassins are making cameo appearances in the screenshot.
As it is with leaks, remember to take everything lightly. Attention-seeking testers are bound to exaggerate details now and again. Feel free to use this information to draw your own conclusions about what will or will not end up in the game come October. After all, nothing is true; everything is permitted.
