Russian developer AlternativaPlatform took to Gamescom for the first time ever last week, showing off its popular browser-based multiplayer game Tanki Online.
Tanki Online Makes Its Way To Gamescom
The Tanki Online booth hosted thousands of players throughout the long weekend, letting veterans and newcomers get behind the wheel of a virtual tank on one of a whole fleet of computers they had set up. Tournaments were held every two hours with the top winners walking away with PC gaming gear like keyboards and headsets. All tournament players were at least able to snag a T-shirt, though.
AlternativaPlatform also used Gamescom to show off to a select group of people its in-progress upgrade to Tanki Online built using the Unity game engine. The new build sports polished graphics and a new user interface, and it is set to release sometime in 2015. The developer says its trying to keep the same feel of its original game in Tanki Online Unity. The difference, however, is that the more supported engine will help Tanki spread to different platforms like mobile devices and Facebook. The ultimate goal, the developer says, is to make it so that users of all platforms will be able to play the same game together or even switch devices mid-battle without a hiccup.
Tanki Online Introduces A New Tank That's Quick On Its Treads
In honor of the German convention, Tanki Online featured a new level for players across the world called "Cologne," named after the city that has hosted Gamescom since its first show in 2009. Some of the game's in-game bonuses were increased during the convention, and Gamescom's icons even showed up in the game's levels.
