Sharp's new Aquos Crystal smartphone takes it to the limit--at least when we're talking about the nearly edge-to-edge screen.
Anticipation For iPhone 6 Pushes Apple Stock To All-Time High
Sharp's previous American release was the FX Storm back in 2011. The Sidekick-like sliding phone was more of a drizzle, but the company is coming back with a unique, if not entirely game-changing, device.
The Aquos Crystal offers a gorgeous screen on a phone almost completely without bezels. Sharp is banking on its reputation as a television manufacturer to boast about the phone. The 5" screen takes up almost all the device's real estate, but only boasts a 720p display.

The Japanese company's strategy is apparently based on smartphone buyers judging books by their covers. The Crystal has a striking, luxury-looking face, but nothing under the screen is really of note. While the phone will be plenty for the average smartphone user, it doesn't provide much wow-factor in terms of internal components.
The design of the screen packs quite a punch, though, especially when the camera is turned on. Because there is nearly no edge, shooting a picture with the 8 megapixel back camera looks like you are just framing real life. Sharp apparently has the Instagram set in mind with the camera software-a feature called Framing Advisors assists with the composition and framing of your pics.
The Aquos Crystal launches in Japan at the end of the month.
