According to a recent leak, the iPhone 6 could ship complete with a reversible USB side of its Lightning-to-USB adapter, CNET reported.
Notorious Apple leaker Sonny Dickson published a video Monday that allegedly shows an iPhone 6 charging through a USB connection with a computer. A hand in the video then removes the USB cable, flips it around and sticks it back into the port.
Pictures of the mysterious new USB cable can be found over at 9to5Mac, which shows that the cable has a certain symmetrical quality that makes the idea of a reversible USB dongle believable. The same page also contains patent information that suggests Apple has been working on this USB technology for a while. According to the patent text, Apple's new reversible USB cable can be inserted in any "standard Type A" USB port, giving it backwards compatibility with existing USB hubs.
Can't Get Enough iPhone 6 Previews? Here Are Some Specs
According to reports, the iPhone 6 is set to be officially revealed at a press event on Sept. 9, a few days after the debuts of several other major players in the mobile market.
With the Lightning end of Apple's cables having been reversible for some time now, it was only a matter of time before those pesky USB ends followed suit. Though it can hardly be considered much more than a slight nuisance, the days of feeling inept as you flip over your USB dongle again and again trying to find the right orientation could finally be coming to an end. The future is upon us.
