Certainly one of the most anticipated games coming out next year is 2K Games' Evolve, the 4 humans vs 1 monster Left 4 Dead-esque action title. The company took some time yesterday during the surprisingly robust Microsoft conference during Gamescom and showed off a new map and gameplay footage.

The new map is called the Distillery and is big on verticality. The gameplay footage joins us media en res, towards the end of a particularly nasty bout of 4 on 1 action and features Hyde the Assault, Lazarus the Medic, Hank the Support, and Griffin the Trapper facing off against Kraken. The Kraken is just about to evolve to its final form, a flying, tentacled machine of death and then it's on to the end game.
The two guys they have commentating aren't the most engaging, I often found them somewhat grating. But they give enough information to be relatively harmless. For instance, it is not just one giant boss battle. There is local wildlife you also must contend with, or eat. I imagine both teams can use the wildlife to their advantage.
WiLD Gamescom Trailer Is Pretty Wild
The single boss mechanic automatically creates a very different experience. As gamers, we are used to mowing down wave after wave of enemies. We almost become numb to it. After all, large scale battles have a decidedly different feel than one on one skirmishes. There's a tension present in the video that isn't found in a lot of games. Both the humans and the monster are in a tight game of cat and mouse, and the fact that you are hunting one very large, very dangerous monster gets your heart pounding. There's no honing your skills on the low level baddies; it's all or nothing.
Evolve is hitting Xbox One on February 10. The open beta begins in January. Watch the gameplay trailer below!
