To lead off its Gamescom press conference live in Cologne, Germany, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold more than 10 million units worldwide.

Sony clarified that this figured represents units sold through to consumers, not simply shipped to retailers. It's an impressive amount in well under a year, and leads the current generation sales race by a fairly wide margin.
