From the ashes arises Ape Law, a new studio from Justin Pappas formerly of Chivalry, who was a level designer on Bioshock: Infinite and the new Tomb Raider. His company's first effort, called Albino Lullaby, has just started its Kickstarter campaign and they want your help. Thankfully, the game is already well enough along to not warrant a huge funding campaign; they're only asking for $25,000 to cover marketing costs and travel, so they can bring the game to PAX and E3 and the like.
A true indie game, Albino Lullaby is described as "Tim Burton meets Tim Schaefer". It is a first person psychological horror game that is interested more in subtly creeping you out than overwhelming you with viscera. Powered by the Unreal Engine, and Oculus Rift compatible, the game will set you in a vast subterranean world that is continually shifting and altering. "Albino Lullaby aims to transport players to a new plane of perception and immersion."
Make All The Difference With Road Not Taken For PS3, Mac And PC
The game will eschew cutscenes and create a more natural playthrough experience, where you have to piece together the story in a Myst-esque hide and seek. The game will be released as a chaptered series. A demo of the first episode, called Witness the Demented, will be available to all backers at the end of the successful Kickstarter campaign in September. Ape Law is expecting to release the full version during Q4 of this year.
Indie games are a dime a dozen on Kickstarter. Now, all of them deserve a shot, but the pedigree behind Albino Lullaby is rich and should instill confidence in backers. The game is getting made no matter what, so there's minimal risk to you. Why not back it?
