Uncharted 4 News: Next Chapter In Naughty Dog Series Will Retain Lighter Adventure Tone And Not Become The Last Of Us

Uncharted 4's Tone Will Be More Indiana Jones, Less The Dark Knight

Video games have suffered from Nolanization recently. That is, something that was once a fun and light hearted escape from reality have become 'grittalistic', a term used to describe the new grim'n'gritty tone that affects virtually everything nowadays.

Though the effect should technically be called the Goyerization. When Naughty Dog premiered the stunningly rendered trailer for the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, it definitely seemed like they were veering into Dark Knight Rises territory: serious, dark and probably sanctimonious. Would the recent, resounding success of The Last Of Us, which is nothing but melodramatic emotional manipulation which highlights 'the very worst of us', affect Naughty Dog's cinematic adventure series?

The answer is thankfully no. In an interview with Eurogamer, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells assures fans that the only similarities between the two games will be the company logo at the beginning.

New Call Of Duty Ghosts Maps And Final Extinction Episode Out Now

"Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons. I don't think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We'd alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we've learned some things from The Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted - in fact, it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct."

Not everything needs to be Batman. The world does need more Indiana Jones, though.

Two senior members of Naughty Dog have recently left the company. Jacob Minkoff, lead designer on The Last Of Us and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and narrative designer Taylor Kurosaki have both resigned and joined up with Infinity Ward to work on the next Call of Duty game.

Now can someone tell DC that comics and games are supposed to be fun, that'd be great.
