Activision Plans for Battleship Launch

Activision is going to launch a video game with Hasbro based on the famous board game Battleship later this May.  The platform of this game will be made for PlayStation 3, Xbox360, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo 3DS. The video game is based on a board game whcih will later become a sci-fi film produced by Univeral Pictures.  The video game version will unite "tactical naval warfare" with first-person shooter action.  

The story revolves around a demolitions expert Cole Matthis and is based in a Hawaiian archipelago.  Battle scenes takes place within gorgeous sand and sea landscapes where Mathis leads a navy fleet in the sea and soldiers on land.  

According to the press release, the new Batleship game will convert a timeless classic property into modern day gameply.

"With a BATTLESHIP videogame, we have an amazing opportunity to take our beloved property and give it a modern-day spin," said Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Marketing at Hasbro. "The merging of tactical and action elements immerses players in an epic maritime conflict. Activision is completely up to the task of delivering a high-intensity thrill ride that's perfectly suited for today's console owners."

"We're geared up for an outrageous sea and land conflict with the all new Battleship videogame," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing.  "Inspired by the film's exciting action and stunning backdrop, the game is next-gen naval warfare that thrusts players into the middle of humanity's last stand against an unfamiliar menace." 

Battleship combines both strategy and first person shooting gameply that allows control over navy and marines aginst enemy attacks. Players can swap back and forth with the battle command map and on field shootouts.  The game will include memorable ships from the board game such as carriers, firgates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and the USS Missouri Battleship.  Magic Pockets will be the developer for Nintendo's version while Double Helix will work on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
