The latest system update for the PlayStation 4 is here. Start up your system today and you'll be able to download and install update 1.75.
PS4 Firmware Update Coming This August, Says Insider, Will Be Brought Up To PS3 Levels
As we reported last week, the biggest feature this update includes is the ability to play 3D Blu-ray movies, which brings it up to the standards of the previous console generation. After all, the PS3 has had support for 3D Blu-Ray movies since 2010.
Along with this new ability for those of you who still haven't gotten over the 3D TV gimmick, sound quality has been improved for 1.5x playback of Blu-ray movies and DVDs, if you're a weirdo who watches their movies at Chipmunk speed. You can also now set the console to automatically download featured content while the system is in standby mode, which seems like it could be a great feature if Sony doesn't abuse it.
Latest Xbox One Update Adds Snap More For Achievements
It's great to see this support but it really makes you wonder how rushed these consoles really were. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched missing features that were standard in the previous generation. (Honestly, no party chat?)
The Xbox One will be getting its own 3D Blu-Ray support later this year in a future update, as Microsoft continues to release fixes and new features each and every month.
