To everyone attending the San Diego Comic Con: drop whatever you are doing and get yourselves to Booth #3920. If you ever wanted to pilot a several thousand ton giant robot, this may be your only chance for a long while.
SDCC Battle Between Marvel And DC, Who WIll Be Victorious?
The fine folks at Legendary Pictures have used the Oculus Rift dev kit to create a working Pacific Rim simulator called Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot. An 'Oculus Drift', if you will. Attendees will be able to take control of the American, Mark-3 mech Gipsy Danger, driven by our hero Handsome McSquarejaw (or Lloyd from Undeclared). You'll take that lumbering giant off the Alaskan coast and battle against Knifehead. Though if I'm not mistaken, things didn't go too well for the Americans that time.
The game was developed using the Unreal 4 Engine and utilizes all the same effects and assets that legendary FX house Industrial Light & Magic used in the original movie.
Experience Cerebro With The Oculus Rift At SDCC
While I found the actual movie of Pacific Rim to be a bit of a disappointment, there's no denying that the action sequences were just flat out awesome. Jumping in one of those giant metal beasts seemed like it would be one of the coolest (and most dangerous) jobs in the world.
No word on whether or not you'll be synced up to another player. In the movie, two pilots were required, one to control each side of the Jaeger. I doubt, but it could make for an interesting display of teamwork, and frustration.
The demo is available to all ticketholders and will be at the Legendary booth until the end of the Con on Sunday. Check out the announcement trailer below!
