Game of the Year? Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Now Available

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is now officially released by EA and 38 Studios.  Spearheaded by the$30 million investment from former Boston's World Series Champion pitcher Curt Schilling, the new single player video game is expected to bring forth a new experience to RPG.

"For the gamers out there, think God of War meets Oblivion meets Skyrim meets Fable...'we've' taken the best features of all those games and turn them into something very new, said Schilling at the release of  Kingdoms of Amalur.

The gameplay combines fast action along with slow paced exploration.  There are plenty of opportunities for gamers to customize their characters and explore a beautifully rendered fantasy world.

Players can choose to play a human or elf with a chance to develop skills in sword fighting and magic.  Characters go on quests, building up experience through battles with ogres, demonic creature, and warriors resembling those seen in Lord of the Rings.  Experience and money gained through battles enable characters to upgrade new weapons and magic abilities. The ability for players to mold and build up their character makes up for the lack of online multiplayer options that are popping up in more recent RPG titles.

The art direction may remind some gamers of of Spawn and Lord of the Rings.  Comic book mogul Todd McFarlane contributed to the style of Amalur's fantasy world along with lead designer Ken Rolston from The Elder Scrolls III and IV.

Considered to be a top contender for Game of the Year, can 38 Studio's first title live up to being the most anticipated game of 2012?

Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning goes on sell for $59.95 and is available for the PlayStation 3,  Xbox 360, and PC.
