QuakeCon 2014 kicked off yesterday and idSoftware wanted to give the con-goers something exclusive, something wonderful. Attendees were treated to the world-first look at the upcoming DOOM. And the rest of the world was very jealous.
Sniper Elite III Save Churchill DLC
DOOM is the grand patriarch of first person shooter games. Everything that came after owes its existence to id's groundbreaking 1993 video game. There have been a lot of sequels and subtitles, but the world learned yesterday that DOOM will be straight up reboot of the original game. The last entry into the series, DOOM 3, was also a reboot but for whatever reason did not strike the zeitgeist as many were hoping it would.
The story will once again take place on a science facility on Mars that gets overrun with the forces of hell. Some things are just too good to ever replace.
QuakeCon News: Elder Scrolls Online Available For Steam
All of the first impressions towards last night's 15 minute demonstration at QuakeCon can agree on one thing: this game will be brutal as hell. PC Gamer was on hand and their tweet regarding the level of violence should be set in stone:
"A demon just ripped the player's arms off and beat him to death with them. The room is breaking out into a standing ovation."
Because how do you not when presented with such madness?
In addition to the wealth of weapons, including the old trusty chainsaw, players are allowed to get a little more creative when trying to get through those pesky doors. Back in the day, you needed to find a keycard. In the new DOOM, when presented with a fingerprint scanner, all you need is a fingerprint. And there are hundreds of scientist's bodies laying around with perfectly good hands, so why not rip those arms off and use em?
Melee combat also makes its first foray into the franchise. Now when confronted with a very close demon, you no longer have to jockey for a better position. Punch, kick and claw that devil until its dead.
The game will be running off the all idTech 6, which is the next version of the engine that id's very successful Wolfenstein: The New Order runs off of. The game will run at 1080p/60fps and will be hitting Xbox One, PS4 and PC. No official release date has been given yet.
