'Destiny' News: Beta Begins On July 17th For PS4 & PS3 Owners, Bungie Weekly Mailbag Answers Why Xbox Beta Comes A Week Later

Destiny News: Beta Begins Next Week For PlayStation Owners; Weekly Mailbag Hopes To Answer Why Xbox Beta Comes So Much Later

DeeJ over at Bungie has dropped some knowledge on us regarding all things Destiny, which if you weren't aware before is kind of a big deal.

Bungie Releases Collectors' Editions of Destiny

The detailed mail bag post can be found here. It's been quite a week for Bungie. The Destiny beta codes have gone live, they've partnered up with IGN to bring you exclusive looks at several of the maps in which your legend can come alive, and they showed off their very impressive looking collectors' editions.

First and foremost, with the Beta hitting next week, there's going to be some problems. You know it, I know it, in fact, the whole of the PlayStation and Xbox servers may decide to just crash on all of us. So, rather than go venting to social media, Bungie is tossing us a lifeline. After all they, need to know what's broken so they can fix it in time for the game's release on September 9. If you have a complaint, shoot it on over to help.bungie.net. But if you need to voice your concern on social media, check in to the @BungieHelp handle on twitter.

DeeJ then opened up the proceedings not to addressing mail, but user comments. With regards to printing more Ghost editions, which feature Ghost, the voiced by a bored Peter Dinklage robot companion in the game, DeeJ says 'nay'. They are limited editions for a reason.

Everyone who wanted to participate in the beta got three codes. This is to help create a Fireteam of you and two of your friends. But do be careful, there is no cross-platform play for Destiny, so if you're awesome and already have a PS4, maybe you should fire up your PS3 instead because all of your friends are broke.

Of particular note is the non-answer answer DeeJ gave as to why the Xbox beta is only about half as long as the PlayStation one. He was snarkily asked, "why do you hate your Xbox fans?" To which he responded:

"We don't hate any of our fans. When we look at Bungie.net, we see gamers. We dare say that we see Bungie fans - although that might be assuming too much. Loving a good game and the hard-working developers who create it is not a console exclusive. This is one place where Guardians will truly be equal. You'll each have a chance to become legend on this site. Our hope is that we can use this environment to talk about the amazing experiences we will all have in common. Bungie has embraced many different platforms in our storied history. We have a hard time sitting still. Our goal has been to create amazing worlds and fill them with as many passionate people as possible. What we would tell you is that, if you want to explore the world of Destiny, it was built with you in mind. We make games here at Bungie. We love the people who play them equally."

True, he answered the question. Bungie does not hate their Xbox fans. Indeed, they should be thanking them for helping make Halo, an Xbox exclusive, the powerhouse it is today. And yet there is a distinct tone of talking too much to avoid a point going on here.

A simple 'the Xbox doesn't run the game like we thought or wanted it to' would suffice.

The Destiny beta starts up this week for PS4 and PS3 users. Xbox One and Xbox 360 players will get the Beta on the 24th.
