Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel -- What We Know About Playable Characters
There's an air of humility, perhaps even insecurity, that permeates the first episode of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's new behind the scenes series. Gearbox Software franchise director talks about being nervous, unsure whether or not the fans will accept their creative choices, but hopes to sate the hungers of those who still have last gen consoles (the game will see release to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3). Melissa Miller, 2K's Director of Product Development, shares these apprehensions. Footage from a brainstorm session starts with an off-screen voice saying "I have no idea."
It's refreshing to have such honesty and forthrightness from a developer and publisher, and a cynical viewer might ascribe feelings of false humility to the slickly produced featurette, scored by a gentle, melancholy guitar piece. We're all just observers on our side of the great creator/consumer wall, but any Borderlands player will be familiar with Gearbox's twisted sense of humor. The great funnymen of history were often big bundles of insecurities (see Peter Sellers).

The vid mostly discusses the creative relationship between Gearbox in Plano, TX and 2K Australia in Canberra (GameNGuide Education: This is the actual capital of Australia, not Sydney, as many think!). It's a pleasant and affable enough fluff piece, but there's very little meat to any gamer hungry for information about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. In fact, the most fascinating thing mentioned is a hint to the story-reason for the moon looking all messed up in Borderlands 2 where it wasn't in Borderlands. You'll have to wait for the next episode for more on this and some Handsome Jack to boot!
