'Sonic Jump Fever' Hits iOS & Android: Sonic, Knuckles, And Tails Return In Free Sequel To Popular 'Doodle Jump' Clone

Sonic Jump Fever Hits Mobile Phones- How Fast Can You Jump?

Sega has announced that Sonic Jump Fever has hit the App and Google Play stores today, bringing that familiar jumping formula back to phones.

The game is free and thus loaded up with all the usual tricks developers employ on free-to-play titles. You've got the timers that restrict your playtime, the premium content, lengthy ads, a daily bonus for logging in, and the usual characters and levels that are locked away and attainable for free only for dedicated gamers. It has added Facebook support as well, allowing you to compete on leaderboards and, of course, get a few free coins for giving them information from your social network.

“Sonic Jump Fever adds the perfect mix of competition and urgency to the already fun formula of Sonic Jump,” said Chris Southall, Hardlight Studio Director. “Sonic games have always given players a chance to tackle levels a little bit faster and better each time – grabbing that one extra ring to improve their score. Now, it’s not just their own personal best they’ll be competing against, but all of their friends’ as well.”

As in the 2012 game (and as in Doodle Jump, the game's clear influence) you'll control one of many familiar Sonic characters and jump on platforms to get as high as you possibly can before inevitably failing. Unlike the other Sonic titles you can kill enemies by hitting them from underneath, and will die if you jump on their heads.

The game has changed a bit and feels much more intense than the last one. Fortunately there's a new Fever Mode you can unleash that lets you fly to the sky, collecting coins, allowing you a chance against the horde of new enemies and obstacles to avoid on your way up. Another new thing that it gives are the little Chao creatures, made popular in the Dreamcast's Sonic Adventure, which afford you special abilities. You'll have to cultivate their friendships in order to get their full powers, however.

It's undoubtedly fun, it's just loaded with lots of things that threaten to make it less fun. There are a few options available to purchase in the store that remove ads, however, which seems like the way to go if you like the game- give the developers a few bucks and get a more playable experience!

In any case, Sonic Jump Fever is available for free right now and you can find out how much you like it for yourself. Find it at either the App Store or Google Play.
