This Kinect 2 is not for your Xbox, as stated in the title, but rather for Windows. Microsoft is hoping to encourage developers to start writing apps based on (or at least utilizing) Kinect functionality: motion and voice recognition/control. No software is included in shipping.

With Xbox One sans Kinect going for $600, the price of the new Kinect that is actually for the Xbox has not yet been revealed. This could mean we're going to start seeing a lot of non-gaming related Kinect stuff coming out. Maybe Minority Report style Skyping with friends, gesturing into the air to attach files to send to them while in or adding new people in a group talk? That's some Star Trek stuff right around the corner, folks!
