Yesterday at the I/O conference, Google showed off the next iteration of Android for the first time, known for now as Android L. HTC has announced it will be bringing the new OS to its flagship devices as soon as possible.

While unable to provide a specific timeline, the Taiwanese company stressed that getting Android L onto its One M7 and One M8 phones is a priority following its reveal. Doing so will keep the phones--particularly the new M8--on the cutting edge, which they certainly are in terms of hardware. The statement comes via HTC's blog as part of the Advantage pledge, which promises "software updates for all devices for up to two years after their launch date".
HTC needs the One M8 to sell well, in the past stating that the success of the original One kept the company going. It wasn't as big of a financial hit as HTC would have liked, however, with Samsung and Apple's comparatively huge marketing budgets dwarfing HTC's efforts. Though the One M8 is not off to a flying start, the company is trying to get a different result this time around with more aggressive advertising and commitments like the Advantage pledge, which matters to enthusiasts.

Android L (which is expected to be given a specific candy or dessert-themed name at some point) boasts a significant visual redesign compared to the current version of Android. An emphasis is being placed on depth, perspective, and layers, with added color making it more visually striking as a whole. You can see some of the differences in the image above, which compares the current Gmail interface to the Android L edition.
