'Hellraid: The Escape' iOS Adventure Horror Game From Dead Island Developer Gets A Release Date

Shortbreak Studios, a division of Techland, has just released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming first-person iOS adventure game Hellraid: The Escape, and if ever a name has told you precisely what you need to know about something, surely this is that name.

Godfire: Rise of Prometheus Mobile Review - Beautiful, Simple, Disappointing

Based on Techland's upcoming Hellraid game for the PC and consoles, Hellraid: The Escape strips away the action elements and creates a more atmospheric and tense adventure game wherein you, the hero, must escape from a dungeon filled with a variety of traps, demons and other such unholy objects, all of which are desperate to murder you, again and again.

The game utilizes the Unreal Engine 3 and may we all take a moment and marvel at the times we live in? The idea of having a game on my phone, let alone one that uses the Unreal Engine 3, is unfathomable to my younger self. It is a mid-90s point and click descent into madness, a beautifully rendered spawn of Doom and Gabriel Knight; or for the kids, a more mobile Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

The decision to exclude combat, while motivated by technological limitations, opens the game up to more creative problem solving. "Players are trapped in a magic prison having only their cunning as their weapon. As every riddle in the game is unique, their attempt to escape will not only put their puzzle-solving skills to the test, but also challenge their reflexes and quick thinking." According to the game's official site, "The challenges in the game have been specifically designed to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of Apple devices."

Hellraid: The Escape is a Universal App that includes no in-app purchases or pay-to-win elements and will be expanded with free updates in the future. The publishers stress this very much in the video found below, which is more a comment on the industry at large than anything else.

The game will hit the App Store on July 10. Due to the hardware required to render it, it will only be available on iPad 2, iPhone 4S and 5th generation iPod Touch or newer devices. Check out the gameplay trailer below and enjoy the dulcet tones of its narrator.
