WB Superhero Lineup Announced, DC Reveals Release Dates For Justice League, Sandman, Wonder Woman & Flash Films

WB And DC Reveal Potential Dates For Upcoming Slate Of Superhero Films

Warner Bros is finally catching up with the times. Instead of just wishing they were like Marvel in the comic book movie department, they are actually doing something about it. Better late than never!

Vincent D'Onofrio Cast As Kingpin In Upcoming Daredevil Netflix Series

The newly launched nikkifinke.com reports that WB will use this year's San Diego Comic Con to launch their new superhero directive. The slate of films are reportedly scheduled to go until the middle of 2018 at this point.

There is no mention of any immediate projects for the remainder of 2014 nor 2015. Things start off in May 2016 with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will act as a springboard for the many other superheroes to follow.

Marvel Heroes 2015 Updates The Superhero MMO

The full schedule as of now goes:

  • May 2016 - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
  • July 2016 - Shazam
  • Christmas 2016 - Sandman
  • May 2017 - Justice League
  • July 2017 - Wonder Woman
  • Christmas 2017 - Flash and Green Lantern team-up
  • May 2018 - Man Of Steel 2

A source inside the studio addresses the late start in getting in on the shared universe game: "Like Marvel's The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie."

Joseph Gordon Levitt will be producing the Sandman film, which I sadly do not believe is based on the Vertigo comic written by Neil Gaiman. Come on DC, make that happen already.

Of the solo projects already announced, only Batman, Superman and Wonderman have been cast. Ben Affleck is donning the cape and cowl, Superman will continue to be played by the really great Henry Cavill and The Fast & The Furious ingenue Gail Gadot will be Wonderwoman. Why she's getting her movie after both Shazam and Sandman I have no idea.

Also no word: will David Goyer be writing all of these movies? One can hope not.

Things can change between now and Comic Con, but stay tuned. And if you need some DC love, Arrow is still the best DC comic related, live action adaptation to come out since The Dark Knight.
