Yesterday at Sony's E3 smack down, comic book creator and legend Brian Michael Bendis was on hand to announce that the television adaptation of his popular comic series Powers will be coming to PlayStation Plus this December.
Long in development, the Powers adaptation was once rumored to be at FX, which would have been a perfect place for it, but has since fallen onto Sony's lap. Bendis and Sony are looking at Powers as the start of "PlayStation becoming a hub for TV content "tailored specifically for gamers."
The premiere episode can be watched by everyone, but only PlayStation Plus members can view the whole first season. The series was announced at last year's E3 and was somewhat drawn out by the incredible line-up of games that Sony unveiled last night.
Peyton Reed Tapped To Direct Marvel's Troubled Ant-Man Movie
Powers is a long running series about two police detectives who investigate crimes of 'superpowered nature'. They themselves possess no abilities or powers themselves and must solve crimes as best they can. One of the detectives, Christian Walker, must also contend with his own status; he was once a superhero too, before losing his powers and becoming a cop. I've only ever read the first issue, Who Killed Retro Girl? but fans of gritty police procedurals and superheroes will be right at home within the series.
Bendis will serve as executive producer of the series. He has served as writer for several Spider-man adaptations and is one of the staff writers for the Marvel Heroes MMO currently out now for PC.
Watch his presentation below. Wouldn't he make a good Kingpin, too?
