Crytek and Deep Silver have announced a partnership to co-publish the newly titled Homefront: The Revolution. Picking up years after Korea has taken over the United States of America, the country now lives under brutal occupation, and it's your job to set it free. This is set in the future so expect all sorts of new technologies in play, and an emphasis on four-player co-op gameplay.

The first Homefront was released by an ailing THQ back in 2011, and landed with somewhat of a thud. Developed by Kaos Studios, a developer that was based in NYC (which is basically unheard of) and only manged to release two titles before being shuttered, the game featured an alternate history. In it, Kim Jong-un reuniting North and South Korea to form the Greater Korean republic, a massive global power that combines the military of the North and the economy of the South, and soon sets out to conquer parts of the world. The U.S. is taken over after Japan falls, and it's your job to fight back against the attack.
After THQ went bankrupt Crytek snapped up the rights to the game, which is why it looks so good- it uses their CRYENGINE technology and will only be available for next-gen systems. "Homefront: The Revolution stands out from the crowd by immersing players in a world where they'll feel emotionally compelled to fight for their freedom," said Hasit Zala, Game Director at Crytek. "We're very excited to work with Deep Silver and deliver an experience that underlines Crytek's commitment to quality whilst tapping into the huge potential we saw when we first acquired the Homefront IP."

While the game certainly is reminiscent of the story of Red Dawn, this new one changes things around a bit. It's set in Philadelphia in the future, where there are surveillance drones and armored patrols to keep the citizens in line. You join the resistance to fight back, engaging in guerilla warware and using hit-and-run tactics to fight back against the occupation. Sounds a lot like what we call terrorists in other countries but hey, what do I know!
The game will offer an huge open-world city where you can recruit potential revolutionaries and construct improvised weapons. There will be a single-player campaign but you can form your own resistance cell online, banding up with three other players to "become renowned as Heroes of the Revolution".
The game is being developed at Crytek's Nottingham studio and as per usual with the studio it will look amazing. "Crytek has an outstanding track record of creating AAA action games. Homefront is a fascinating IP with huge global potential. With Crytek's technical pedigree and Deep Silver´s publishing expertise, we will take the IP to new heights," said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver / Koch Media.
