After the Invasion DLC's formal announcement last week for Call of Duty: Ghosts, developer Infinity Ward is going in deep to offer some details at the game's new maps. Two new videos are out which preview field order rewards and overall looks at the spine tingling "Mutineer," and sandy "Pharaoh" map. Check out the videos for a nice sneak peek!
Activision Announces Call of Duty: Ghosts' Next DLC, Invasion, Out June 3
First up, we have "Pharaoh." The video begins with an old timey feel before cutting to the brutal reality of sandy combat. At the 1:38 mark, you'll see that an ancient obelisk can be knocked down with a strategically placed explosive. Players will also find that urns in this abandoned dig site are filled with more than just dust. Destroy the wrong one, and you'll be greeting with a horde of flesh eating scarabs that would put the biblical plagues of Egypt to shame. It's also said that the ancient god of the afterlife Anubis is watching, ready to reward skillful warriors for sending souls to his domain.
After that sandy romp, jet setting off to the Caribbean is a welcome change. Unless your destination happens to be Invasion's "Mutiny" map. This is no scenic paradise, Mutiny is home to an old school Pirate haven, not unlike Haiti's Tortuga Island circa 17th century. Just a bit more haunted. Players who complete this map's field order earn control of a ghostly pirate ship, complete with multiple cannons, which, while dated, you'll see are still quite effective. The map is also home to ghostly apparitions, attacking players willy nilly, so be on your guard when you hit up "Mutiny."
Sleek New Weapon Coming to Call of Duty: Ghosts as DLC - The Ripper
In addition to these new maps, there's also two others:
* the Mexican map "Departed," inspired by the Day of the Dead celebrations, set in a rural Mexican town. Players that complete the map's unique Field Order will unlock the Death Mariachi killstreak - "Armed with dual-wielding pistols, the Death Mariachi settles scores, with each kill turning enemy players into another member of the band, and a temporary squad mate."
* the return of Modern Warfare 2's fan-favorite map, "Favela," set in a Brazilian shantytown. Players who complete the Field Order in Favela will be able to call in heavy air support from a nearby Y-8 Gunship to bring the rain with a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon and a 25mm cannon."
A new episode for Ghosts' Extinction Mode comes with the DLC as well. Dubbed "Awakening," the strike team is set to head into a subterranean fortress and take on the creatures responsible for the Cryptid invasion. Presumably, there will be new cryptids for players to eviscerate, but as of yet, they have not been announced.
As you might've expected, Invasion releases first on Xbox One on June 3, followed by Xbox 360, and eventually PC and PlayStation platforms. The content is free to Season Pass holders, and will cost the usual $14.99 for everyone else. Interestingly, while both Onslaught and Devastation offered players new weapons, there was mention of such an offer for Invasion.
