'Avatar' 2? Cameron Teams Up With Cirque Du Soleil For New Pandora Stage Adventure

'Avatar' On Stage, Cameron Teams Up With Cirque Du Soleil For New Pandora Adventure

That sound you heard is the not insignificant community of Avatar fans in the world exclaiming with excitement over the news: Avatar, and its world Pandora, is about to become real. Blockbuster director James Cameron is teaming up with Cirque Du Soleil to bring a live action Avatar tour to arenas around the globe. It will be Pandora in 3D, no glasses required.

Six Seasons And A--Well, Maybe A Sixth Season For Community

Avatar is the highest grossing film in Hollywood history, a stunningly beautiful, fairly familiar story that captured the world's imagination several years ago. Sadly, it never took hold as a pop culture force the way other, far less ambitious films. Though the plot was light, the world itself, a beautiful jungle planet called Pandora, was fully realized and a wonder to behold. I myself saw the film several times in theaters simply to be transported away. And it remains 3D's biggest, most satisfying success story to date.

Deadline reports that the show will debut sometime late next year, opening the floodgates to a wealth of new Avatar material. Cameron recently finished the scripts to three, yes, three follow ups and filming will begin this December in New Zealand, or any green screen large enough to hold the man's talent and ego. Avatars 2 through 4 will be filming all at once and are set to debut one year apart from one another, beginning next year.

Cirque Du Soleil is a worldwide phenomena, a circus troupe that astounds and amazes. I love going to see their shows. The things they can do, the spectacles they can achieve through just the use of human movement is a perfect fit for the undisputed king of Hollywood spectacle, James Cameron. Who said the theater is dead? It's just gone to outerspace.
