'Final Fantasy III' Steam Release, Beloved RPG Classic Gets Overhaul, Update [VIDEO]

'Final Fantasy III' Released On Steam, Beloved RPG Classic Gets Overhaul

Today, Square Enix released the beloved Final Fantasy III onto Steam. The game, originally released in 1990, was the first Final Fantasy title to reach one million sales, but was also, until recently, the only entry into the series to never have been released in North America. An upgraded, 3D animated version for the DS was released in 2006.

Despite A Copyright, Still No FF VII Update Coming

The game has undergone even further updates, graphics changes and story sequences, optimized for the PC and downloadable through Steam. New achievements have been added, as well as Steam Trading Cards, which are a social way to level up your account and earn badges, emoticons and other profile goodies.

Final Fantasy III follows the adventures of four orphans (always the orphans) who must venture forth from their small village atop a floating continent and defeat the Cloud of Darkness, which just sounds like it is up to no good. Yes, I know that sounds like virtually every other Final Fantasy game ever made. The original 1990 game, while it suffered from a lack of character distinction in its protagonists, introduced many of the actions that the Final Fantasy series is known for, such as steal and the summon skill during battles.

Final Fantasy Theatrhythm Gets A Teen Rating

The Steam release includes:

New and improved 3D visuals and story sequences
Quicker browsing through the monster bestiary and other game record
New visual designs for the Job Mastery Cards
Upgraded graphics
Includes Achievements
New feature of Steam Trading Cards

I'm a bit of a completist, so having this game available on another platform makes me anxious. I need to play it. I've played every other FF game, except you, Japanese #3 (the original American III was actually Final Fantasy VI and remains one of the greatest games of all time), so color me excited. The game is priced at $15.99 for North American customers and £10.99/€12.99 for our European party members.
