'World of Warships' Releases New Video, Developer Diary Shows Off Historical Detail, Still No Release Date [VIDEO]

'World of Warships' Developer Diary Promises Epic Naval Warfare

Wargaming has released the first in an upcoming series of developer's diaries that take an in depth look into their World of Warships free-to-play MMO, which pits players into massive naval encounters against one another. The video, at just about six minutes, is well worth your time, whether you play any one of Wargaming's popular franchises or if you're just looking for a more in-depth look into the process of game development. Or if you just really like large navy ships (and come on, who doesn't?)

World of Tanks Blitz E3 Lineup

It's very clear, as with all of the company's franchises, that an incredible amount of research and detail goes into the digital models of all the ships, be they tanks, planes or naval vessels. They don't just draw on models for their designs, they're heading to the actual ships and observing how every piece works with every other piece. Hell, if it were possible or necessary to the game, I'm sure you could zoom into the hull of the ships and find an absolutely 100% accurate recreation of the inner workings.

World of Warships is the latest entry into the wildly popular World of [INSERT REAL WORLD ARMAMENT]. The game is still currently in a closed alpha stage with no release date set. Given the attention to detail Wargaming has put into their other games, it is anyone's guess as to when the game will be released. Between now and the next presidential election, if we're lucky. For reference, the World of Warplanes closed beta lasted a approximately a year, and World of Warships has not even finished its current alpha testing. It is going to be a while, folks!

World of Warplanes New Flight Academy Video

The video describes the four main classes of naval vessels a player can command: aircraft carrier, battleship, cruiser and destroyers. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, for instance, the aircraft carrier can launch planes, while the cruisers are fast and nimble machines that strike quickly, but can be easily destroyed. And in case of alien invasion, of course you call the battleship.

The developers also note that there will be no submarines in this game. Not because they're trying to break the historical accuracy of the game, but simply because having submarines wouldn't fit into the gameplay. Though perhaps one can expect a smaller scale World of Submarines game in the future. Or at the very least, that could be the name of Wargaming's in-house sandwich shop.

Catch up on the developer's thoughts in the video below and be sure to head over to the World of Warships site for more info! Stay tuned for more as they come.
