External storage support is coming to the Xbox One in June's firmware update, Microsoft has announced. The update allows gamers to save more content, games, videos, etc to the Xbox One, and players can even have more than one drive hooked up to one system. Hard drives must have at least 256GB of space of free space to work with the system.
Xbox One Backwards Compatibility A Reality?
The June update will also see the elimination of the need for an Xbox Live Gold membership to access the basic versions of entertainment sites such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. You know, like a real computer. You still need the subscription for Netflix, but it's one less thing you need to pay for if, like me, your systems serve largely as a means for binging on seasons of Chuck.
Microsoft is removing the automatic Kinect log-in, no doubt an olive branch as they begin to roll out the Kinect-less Xbox Ones in the coming months.
The system will also be enabling real name support, which is an incredibly odd and intriguing recent phenomena on this, the internet, which succeeded on the basis of anonymity. This feature is completely optional and has different levels of customization. You can show your real name in addition to your gamer tag to friends, friends of friends or everyone. No longer will you need to try and guess who HashTagYolo420 is on your friends list and you can go about ignoring Ted, that fragging bastard as you normally would.
Netflix Monthly Price Increased
A SmartGlass app update is also being put into this update for easier pin swapping for all of you Twitch gamers out there.
