Ubisoft is in full-on damage control after some leaked copies of Watch Dogs have been spotted in the wild, prompting reviews that have been less than favorable to their upcoming hacker game. Aiden Pearce is not happy, and Ubisoft has claimed that these "false reviews" won't be representative of the final game.
Turns out that neither PS4 or Xbox One Versions of Watch Dogs Are 1080p
An early review from WCCF Tech, who managed to get a retail copy of an Xbox One copy, wasn't exactly kind to the game or, at least, how it looks.
"The visual fidelity is definitely not on point to E3 2012 - without big explosions which make sense - and the daytime looks bland and equivalent to Grand Theft Auto V (a last generation title which was highly optimized)," says WCCF Tech's Ali Naqi. "Keep in mind, this is just on consoles after all." They have released footage to prove it (see below) and leaked footage from the PS4 version is currently airing on Twitch and appearing on sites around the net, as well.
Watch Dogs 101 Trailer Shows You Everything You Need To Know
With a week to release, Ubisoft is undoubtedly worried about early bad press from these sites, especially since the game will come with a hefty day one update, as is increasingly becoming common. These updates can fix a broken game and patch up any issues that might arise in the last weeks before a game's release. Is it fair to consumers who don't have internet access? No, but sometimes issues crop up last minute and this is a way for them to correct them.
In any case, Ubisoft has responded... in character. "Hackers have attempted to infiltrate our system and post false reviews of Watch Dogs. All valid reviews will emerge at release on May 27_", they said in a tweet.
Well- false reviews is a little harsh. If these are indeed retail copies then the reviews aren't false, they're just not approved. If an update is required to make sure the game looks and plays as well as they hope, that's another thing.
But does it look as awful as they say? Check it out below and decide for yourself. Watch Dogs hits stores next Tuesday, May 27.
