While PlayStation Plus subscribers are already enjoying Stick It To the Man (a truly wonderful game) as one of their free Instant Game Collection titles this month, the free games keep rolling in. This week will see the release of Skullgirls Encore, the recently-updated 2D fighting game that features an awesome hand-drawn art style.

It's not hyperbole lie to call the game one of the best-looking 2D fighting games ever made- it's fact. The game features the most frames of animation per character of any fighting game ever made, all hand-drawn at high resolution and enhances with real-time lighting effects. You can see how it looks in motion via the trailer below. Konami actually took Skullgirls off PSN and XBLA last December without warning, only for the developer to bring it back via the improved Encore version with a new publisher.
The official synopsis- "Skullgirls Encore is an update to the original Skullgirls, a fast-paced 2-D fighting game that puts players in control of fierce warriors in an extraordinary Dark Deco world. Building on its established game systems tried and tested by veteran and casual fighting game fans alike, Skullgirls Encore includes new systems, new stages and music, balance adjustments, gameplay tweaks and more. All brought to you with the same high quality Skullgirls and Lab Zero Games are known for!"

Skullgirls Encore will be available to download for free on May 13 when the PSN Store updates. As always, Sony has revealed via its PlayStation blog this week's PS Plus discounts as well. These discounts might make you do a double-take at first, as they focus on content for free-to-play titles. Huh? Yeah, that's right- free-to-play games aren't actually free if you really get into them, and there's plenty of paid content available. Now almost all of it's on sale, including discounts on Blacklight Retribution, DC Universe Online, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, Dust 514, Spartacus Legends, and Warframe.
Eidos is also having a special sale this week for a few of its more popular titles, including HItman Absolution and Tomb Raider for PS3, with larger discounts for PS Plus subcribers. Check the PlayStation Blog for the full list of features, and get ready to fire up your PS3s this week to take advantage of the free game!
