'Flappy Bird' Clones: Rovio's 'Retry' Game Allows Players To 'Fly A Plane' With 'Awkward Control Mechanics'? [VIDEO]

Angry Birds Developer Rovio Announces New Flappy Bird-Style Game Retry

Even when you thought the Flappy Bird craze was over, there are those trying to capitalize on its success. We saw an endless march of clones released on mobile platforms after the phenomenon that was the frustrating and simple Flappy Bird, particularly after its creator pulled the game from mobile stores.

Many of those knockoffs were created by individuals trying to find success, but now a large studio has stepped in with its own remake. Angry Birds developer Rovio has created a Flappy Bird-inspired title, appropriately titled Retry, which you can see in action below.

To its credit, the level designs are varied compared to Flappy Bird and you instead fly a plane, which has awkward control mechanics that make navigating the tight corridors look quite difficult.

Unlike Flappy Bird, Rovio's remake comes with in-app purchase options, and Rovio has chosen not to use its popular Angry Birds property in the creation of this clone, despite the obvious avian similarity between the aesthetics. The mechanics borrow enough from Flappy Bird that you can imagine they did not want to be accused of making a full-blown copy, but the developers seem to have avoided that.

Retry's retro appearance (and great music, at least in the trailer) help it stand out, and there are various level types. Flappy Bird was hardly the first game to make the player navigate a narrow passage with difficult controls (flash game Helicopter comes to mind), but I doubt we would be seeing Retry had it not been for the mobile sensation. Unfortunately, Retry is only available in Canada, Finland, and Poland as of right now.
