Sony opted to take more time the next generation version of the title, looking to do more than simply port the game onto the new hardware. They've rebuilt portions of the game, added new features, and made several upgrades that take advantage of the PS4's increased horsepower. I'll let them explain:
"We weren't content to simply port over this year's game to PS4; our talented team has invested a great deal of work into this next-gen debut," the game's director of production Chris Cutliff said on the PlayStation blog. "This includes completely rebuilding all 30 MLB stadiums from scratch; textures are four times as large and environment polygon counts have jumped from 150,000 to more than 1 million.

"We've made advancements in countless areas: players are more detailed, down to the hairs on their face; fully rendered grass adds vibrancy to our grand cathedrals; a revamped lighting engine simply stuns, especially during night games; fully redone HD crowd audio leverages the vast resources of PS4; and much, much more."
The PS3 and Vita versions of MLB 14: The Show look good, but the footage we've seen of the title on PS4 certainly exceeds them. The player models and stadiums look fantastic, as you can see in the video below. The title launched on the first two platforms April 1, and will be available on PS4 later today when the PSN store updates.
