Destiny is shooting to be a new type of MMO, as the former Halo studio Bungie is crafting an online world where you can play with tons of other players and friends but in a more shooter-rific package.
Since Destiny is trying to become a new type of MMO, they're trying to ditch the old MMO tradition of "grinding," where you have to perform monotonous task after monotonous task to level your character up. Or maybe they aren't. Or maybe they are? I don't know, all I know is that The Guardian has the report, saying this:
"The social intent of the game cannot be overstated," the article stated. "Indeed, leveling up each character to max takes only a few hours - Bungie doesn't want you to start the game then realize you have weeks of grind to put in before you can play against friends on a higher level. 'You level cap quickly, but once you're there the game is more about equipping the gear that lets you go deeper into the game,' says (Bungie's Tyson) Green. 'There are more strikes, there are raids, there are higher levels of PvP if you equip better weapons and armor.'"
OK, so that makes it sound like leveling up will be kind of easy, and getting cool loot will be the main object of this game. But wait! There's more! Bungie's own David "Deej" Dague stepped in on Reddit to comment on the allegedly short leveling process:
"Hmmmm, what to say about this?
The progression system that has been shared to date is in no way final.
I can assure you that your evolution in Destiny will take more than a few hours.
That said, we're not creating something that should feel like a grind or a chore.
Resume speculation!"
OK, so the leveling system will be longer than a few hours, but not so long that it's annoying. So, what, a dozen hours? Who knows.
How long do you think is reasonable to reach max level in Destiny? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
