Watching older games played live on stream can be a lot of fun, perhaps serving as a trip down memory lane, or allowing you to watch a title you never played as a kid.
Watching someone play when he cannot see a damn thing is pretty entertaining too, and that's exactly what's going on in 62-bit Gaming's Super Mario 64 Twitch stream. The player is working his way through the game while blindfolded, getting vocal directional instructions from his partner.
I know--you were hoping he was somehow managing to play the game without looking by some insane memorization skills. I was disappointed too, but I accepted reality when I realized that was bordering on absolutely impossible. Get disoriented or make a false move once in a 3D world, and there's just no way you'd be able to find your path again.
Besides, the vocal directions are entertaining. The two need to navigate the various maps together, which works decently when things are calm. But during more frantic moments (like the battle with Bowser in the video below), it's quite difficult to give directions and properly react to them before they become irrelevant. There are several other videos of blindfolded play sessions on the channel or suggested along the right side of the Twitch page.
Scrambling away from the fire and trying to get behind Bowser is pretty amusing while everything keeps moving. Forget speed runs--I want to see more classic games played by people wearing blindfolds. Sadly, I have to say that playing most games while being unable to see is pretty implausible. But who wouldn't want to see blind Ocarina of Time?
