Fans of the "Elder Scrolls" franchise were left disappointed after the latest entry in the series, "The Elder Scrolls VI," passed a sad milestone online.

This development is that "The Elder Scrolls VI" is now as old as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was when the former was originally announced. The latter was released on Nov. 1, 2011, and was considered by many as one of the best games of all time.

Developer Bethesda garnered dozens of awards for its creation, and fans have since been asking what could come next. The studio then surprised the community when it unveiled "The Elder Scrolls VI" on June 10, 2018.

The reveal of the latest entry in the franchise was made 2,403 days after "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was made available to the public. As of Jan. 7, 2025, it has also been 2,403 days since "The Elder Scrolls VI" was teased to the community, according to Dexerto.

With how much time has already passed since Bethesda first announced "The Elder Scrolls VI," fans are eagerly waiting for new information regarding the game. In between the announcement of the title and now, the developer has been busy with other projects as well.

A Disappointing Milestone

These include "Starfield," which was its first new IP in more than two decades, which took up a lot of the company's time and resources. The game's early development began in late 2015 after it released "Fallout 4."

The disappointing milestone for "The Elder Scrolls VI" is further exacerbated by the fact that the original teaser trailer is the only trailer fans have gotten so far. In the r/TESVI subreddit, where the news was first shared, a lot of fans shared their reactions, Gaming Bible said.

One user, Woodburygooner, said that they previously joked that they would most likely have passed away by the time Bethesda releases "The Elder Scrolls VI." They noted that they now regret what they said as if it could actually have come true.

Another user, ShawnyMnKnight, said that they didn't even understand the point of the first and only trailer for the game. They noted that it was just a camera pan across the countryside and did not show much of anything else.

Bethesda development chief Todd Howard previously said that it actually has been a while since they shared something about the latest entry in the franchise. What fans know right now is that "The Elder Scrolls VI" is at least in production, as confirmed by the studio, according to IGN.
