The developer of the long-running "Bayonetta" franchise, PlatinumGames, shared a post on social media, revealing that it has many plans for the series' 15th anniversary year.

The studio noted that it has "various announcements" planned to celebrate the momentous occasion for the "Bayonetta" franchise. The original game was released in Japan on the PlayStation 3 in October 2009.

Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary

The game was then brought internationally to the United States and Europe a few months later, in January 2010. PlatinumGames seems to be using the western launch date of "Bayonetta" to count its anniversaries.

Over the last decade and a half, the "Bayonetta" franchise has spawned two sequels on Nintendo platforms. The studio is also set to share many announcements related to the series throughout this year.

So far, fans have seen a commemorative "Bayonetta" music box, which is now available for fans to pre-order for themselves. This particular product will play the game's theme and currently has a price tag of roughly $228, according to Push Square.

Fans of the "Bayonetta" franchise will also be able to get their hands on new mobile phone wallpapers that will come every month this year, which can be claimed from the series' official website.

The developer also noted that since the studio's inception, it has continued to work to push the boundaries of action games. PlatinumGames was able to deliver a brand-new action experience in 2009 with the release of the first "Bayonetta" game.

A Year of Celebration

PlatinumGames said that it is still very proud of the "Bayonetta" franchise and expressed its gratitude to the fans who continue to support the series. The studio said it was proud to have walked alongside the franchise's charming cast of characters through the last 15 years, VGChartz said.

The studio added that moving forward, it would continue to take on new challenges in creating games and to surprise and delight its fans worldwide. PlatinumGames is looking forward to fans' continued support for the series and the studio itself.

On top of video games, the "Bayonetta" franchise spawned an animated movie, "Bayonetta: Bloody Fate." Despite the celebrations, one piece of bad news is that co-founder Hideaki Kamiya separated from PlatinumGames in 2023.

Kamiya was the original director of the "Bayonetta" franchise and was also the supervisor for its subsequent titles. After leaving the studio, he went on to form development studio Clovers and is now working with Capcom on the highly anticipated sequel to "Okami," according to Nintendo Life.
